Professional Experience

Dr. Hermiz is a board-certified psychiatrist, trained at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, and has been in private practicing since 2018. He focuses on integrating both psychotherapy and medication management to address deep-rooted psychological issues. His expertise includes combining psychopharmacology with various therapeutic approaches, such as Psychoanalytic, Psychodynamic, Attachment-Based Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy , and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for psychosis. Forensic Experience

Dr. David Hermiz has extensive forensic psychiatry experience, including testifying in over a dozen cases in mental health court, criminal court, and dependency court. Notably, he provided expert testimony that contributed to a successful case involving legal rights for parenthood and also served as an expert witness in a malpractice case. He has conducted several dozen probable cause hearings for involuntary psychiatric hospitalization and regularly performs psychiatric evaluations for attorneys, including fitness-to-serve and competency evaluations on a consultation basis.


Dr. Hermiz has completed over three dozen capacity evaluations for hospitalized patients and spent two years working with the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health in re-entry programs for men and women diverted from jail to mental health services. In this capacity, he helped identify numerous forensic cases, including psychopathy, and worked closely with individuals diagnosed with personality disorders. His extensive experience includes the assessment and treatment of various personality disorders.


Currently, Dr. Hermiz focuses on psychoanalytic psychotherapy, specializing in trauma victims, including those affected by rape and other crimes, with an emphasis on attachment-based approaches. He is a licensed physician in California. Explore a list of his of publications is here.
